After the heartbreak of last year, the Kansas City Chiefs are in the Super Bowl as they face the red-hot San Francisco 49ers at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida.

Patrick Mahomes

There will always be a debate as to who the best player in the NFL is. But when it comes to the Super Bowl, the best player on the field will undoubtedly be Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The 24-year-old helped Kansas win the AFC Championship against the Tennessee Titans with a top-notch performance where he completed 23 of 35 passes for 294 yards and three touchdown passes. He also had a team-high 53 rushing yards where he grabbed a touchdown after a brilliant play.

Mahomes is a special player and is notably yet to make a turnover in a playoff game. If he has another good game — which he can be expected to given his reliability — Kansas will fancy their chances of getting that Lombardi trophy.

Offense

The Chiefs’ offense is their primary strength. After all, they have scored 86 points in their two postseason games already — not to mention 12 touchdowns in 20 offensive possessions. The fact that they have a mobile quarterback in Mahomes who can make those touchdown runs adds another layer to their potent offense. Not to mention the likes of Tyreek Hill, Damien Williams, and Sammy Watkins.

And despite how good the 49ers have been defensively, they will be facing arguably their toughest task all season against Kansas.

Less pressure

The Chiefs might be favorites to win the Super Bowl for some, but it’s absolutely the 49ers who are expected to win by most. Given their all-round team, the balance of good offense and defense and no notable weaknesses, the Super Bowl is virtually San Francisco’s to lose.

Whether they can handle it will be seen in two weeks, but Kansas won’t have the same amount of pressure to win — and that could allow them to play to their absolute best.

The Super Bowl 54 betting odds opened with the Chiefs as the slight favorites, which speaks a lot about how close people are expecting this game is going to be.
