Gameplay
Currently there are two different game modes in Fortnite.
- Battle Royale
- Save the World
Battle Royale
Battle Royale is based on the principle of last man standing. At the start of the game players are dropped on an island with a maximum of 100 players. Depending on the selected game mode you play by yourself, together with a friend as duo or with a squad of up to 4 team members.
After landing the player must search for weapons for defense and to kill other players. In the meantime the playing field on the island is getting smaller and smaller due to a storm that is getting bigger. As a result the players will encounter each other at some point. To increase your survival chances the player can also build defenses such as floors, walls and traps. To do so he has to obtain building materials from destroying buildings and objects in the game. There are three types of building materials: wood, stone and metal.
The last player to stay alive is deemed the winner.
Save the World
In Save the World you are not playing against other players around the world. Instead you have to shoot monsters. The game takes place in today’s world, where the sudden appearance of a global storm leads to the disappearance of 98% of the world’s population and zombie-like creatures rise up to attack the rest.
Alone or in a team of up to four players you work on different missions on randomly generated worlds to collect resources, build forts around defensive targets, protect survivors and fight with waves of creatures. Players receive rewards through these missions to improve their hero characters, support teams and arsenal of weapon and capture schemes to take on more difficult missions.
Fortnite eSports
With the ESL Katowice Royale, Scallywag Cup, Blackheart Cup and Luxury Cup, Fortnite players have nothing to complain about available eSports tournaments. However, these tournaments don’t stand a chance when compared to the biggest Fortnite tournament in the world; the Fortnite World Cup!
In 2019 Epic Games organized the first Fortnite World Cup and with a 40 million prize pool and a first prize of 3 million dollars it became one of the largest and most successful eSports tournaments of recent times. The future of Fortnite eSports tournaments looks bright!
