Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft is a free digital collecting card game based on the Warcraft Universe World of Warcraft TCG set. Players can choose between 9 different Warcraft heroes, collect their own map deck, and use it to defeat their opponent with special weapons and powers. Each hero has cards that are not available to other heroes, so each hero has his or her own style of play.

The game was released on March 11, 2014 for PC and Mac users. Since April 2, 2014, the game is available for iPad.

Gameplay

Hearthstone is a trading card game and that means that you play with cards. Each card has its own function and can help you to win the game. At the beginning of the game both players have a deck with thirty cards and both start with thirty lives. The intention is to let your opponent die with the help of the cards. Each card has certain characteristics and by combining them you can try to defeat your opponent. There are used among others minions, spells and weapons.

Hearthstone eSports

To become the best Hearthstone player you’ll need to start playing the Masters Qualifiers tournament. The qualifiers are open to all who want to test their skills against other esports stars. Each week during Masters Qualifiers season approximately 30 tournaments are held. The champion of each Masters Qualifier will receive an invite to one of three $250,000 Masters Tour events, where they will face off against name-brand pros and fellow qualifiers winners alike.

In 2019 the Masters Tour will consist of three marquee live events, one in North America (Las Vegas), one in Asia (Seoul), and one in Europe (Bucharest). The Masters Tour consists of invitation-only tournaments where Masters Qualifiers winners will get to compete against the biggest names in Hearthstone esports. In 2020 there will be even more Masters Tour events. And take note: dominant Masters Tour finishes will open the door to joining our premier tier of play, Hearthstone Grandmasters!

This year, 48 of the world’s top Hearthstone players will join Hearthstone Grandmasters. Players from three regions — 16 each from the Americas, Europe, and Asia-Pacific — are chosen based on lifetime earnings, 2018 HCT Competitive Points, and other criteria. Hearthstone Grandmasters consists of two eight-week seasons, with five 1v1 best-of-three Specialist matches played on Twitch every Friday and Saturday, and six matches played every Sunday. Hearthstone Grandmasters will culminate in an epic global finals at year’s end, where the top two competitors from each region, plus two Gold Series Champions from China, will compete for a $500,000 prize pool.

Following the conclusion of the 2019 program, the two players at the bottom of the standings in each region will be at risk of relegation, while top performers from Masters Tour events will be eligible for invitations to join Hearthstone Grandmasters in 2020, thus allowing new talent to rise to the top of Hearthstone esports!
